CLEVELAND — Thousands of Northeast Ohioans are feeling the pain of potholes in their wallets.
Scraped, dented, cracked rims and blown out tires are commonplace at local garages. But don’t forget, the nicer the car, the more expensive it is to fix it.
Local dealerships sell insurance policies that will cover the pothole punishment, that can cost hundreds of dollars to fix.
“There’s a lot of things we can’t control, like when the city will fix the potholes,” said Alison Spitzer, vice president of operations at Spitzer Auto Group. “But there are some things we can control, like how to protect our vehicles, and that’s where we come in.”
The insurance coverage is damages for five years or three years for leases.
Spitzer describes the cost of the insurance plan as “less than a cup of coffee a day.”
“If you compare that to the amount of money you’re going to have to pay for replacing a tire or wheel — it also covers windshields, which can cost thousand of dollars a pop,” she said. “It’s going to be more affordable to be proactive.”
If you did not purchase the policy when you purchased your car, you can still go back to most dealerships and buy it now. They inspect your tires for damage first.
